So He Could Stand on His Own

A man lost his sight in a sudden accident. From that day on, his mother became his eyes. Each morning, she rose early to take him to work, and each evening, she met him to bring him home. Wherever he went, she was by his side.

How could she expect me, now blind, to make my way alone? Yet from the very next morning, he boarded the bus to and from work by himself. At times he stumbled; at times sorrow welled up inside him. Still, day after day, he endured and carried on.

The man, who had believed himself utterly alone, realized his mother had been there all along—and he wept.
