Bear-Approved Honey

For three years, a beekeeper in Türkiye suffered heavy losses as his honey was repeatedly stolen—by none other than a bear. In an effort to keep the intruder away, he built fences around the apiary and even moved the hives onto the roof. But the bear proved relentless, tearing down fences, climbing trees, and scrambling onto rooftops, determined to get to the honey.

Each visit left the apiary in ruins. While cleaning up one day, the beekeeper noticed something curious: the bear did not eat just any honey—it constantly chose the highest-quality honey first. Intrigued, he decided to conduct a simple experiment. He lined up jars of honey in different grades and filmed which one the bear would choose. The results were unmistakable. Every time, the bear went straight for the finest honey, turning to the lower-quality options only afterward. Even when the positions of the jars were changed, the pattern never varied.

As the story spread, the honey favored by the bear quickly sold out, commanding premium prices. Rather than driving the bear away, the beekeeper discovered an unexpected advantage—his troublesome visitor had become an unlikely and remarkably reliable “honey expert.”
