An entrepreneur went on vacation to a small seaside village. While strolling along the pier, he came across a fisherman pulling in a nearly empty net. Curious, he asked why there weren’t more fish. The fisherman chuckled and replied,
“I only catch what I need to get by each day.”
The entrepreneur, looking concerned, said,
“But why don’t you catch more? If you caught extra fish, you could sell them at the market and make more money. With that money, you could buy a bigger boat and catch even more.”
The fisherman asked,
“And what would I gain from all that?”
The entrepreneur, clearly frustrated, replied,
“Well, eventually, you’d become rich! Then you could fish just for fun, relax on the beach with your family, swim in the sea, and enjoy time with your friends. Just imagine how happy you’d be!”
After listening quietly, the fisherman smiled and said, “But that’s exactly how I live now.”
Some people pursue success, like the entrepreneur. Others, like the fisherman, choose a simpler way of life. There is no single right answer to how life should be lived. Perhaps the most important thing is whether we can sincerely say “yes” to this question: “Are you happy now?”
