Unfading Carnation

One day before Parents’ Day, my son asked me, “Mom, what gift do you want to receive? According to the news, a survey shows that parents prefer practical gifts or money to carnation and cake. Do you agree?” After thinking for a while, I replied.

“I prefer carnation my son gives. But the real flower withers so fast that I prefer a ballpoint pen with a carnation-shaped pendant. It will make the living room bright and I will be happy whenever I use it.”

The next day, my son came home late from the private academy and did not come out of his room for a while. On my dressing table, an impressive gift was waiting for me, which made me smile. It was a carnation made of a paper bag and his used notebook. I smiled at his wit and shed tears, moved at his heartfelt letter. Although he went around stationery stores, he must have found it hard to get the pen with an artificial carnation. A few days later, however, I received the gift of the pen with a carnation, too.
