I am not a morning person, so I couldn’t prepare breakfast for my husband, who goes to work early. Even when I woke up early because I couldn’t sleep well, my husband was more concerned about my health condition than his meal, saying he could just eat the sandwich provided by his company.
One day, I put myself in his shoes: ‘How hungry would I be if I went to work in the morning without having breakfast?’
That evening, I went grocery shopping with a firm determination to make breakfast for my husband. Concerned that he might stop me, I said, “As I wake up late in the morning, I can’t have a productive day, so I’ll get up early and have breakfast with you.” He didn’t stop me.
The next morning, I woke up to the sound of the alarm and hurriedly prepared breakfast. The menu was dumpling soup with sliced rice cakes. After having breakfast for the first time in a while, my husband thanked me, saying it was good and filling. He then mentioned he would bring me the sandwich that he usually receives from his company.
As promised, he brought me the sandwich after work. It was cold from being refrigerated. I felt so sorry for letting him eat cold sandwiches every morning and regretted not making breakfast for him earlier.
Actually, I had prepared breakfast for him before. But when he saw me go straight back to bed after making it with a sleepy face, he seemed to feel sorry for me. One day, he told me it was fine not to have breakfast, and I believed his little white lie.
Though he may seem indifferent, he always puts the family first. I’m proud of my husband and grateful to him. I hope he can go to work with more energy after having breakfast at home.
